I was kind of flattered when I was asked to be the "money watcher" at church, aka stand by the basket where people can put donations during the after-service lunch. It's a voluntary donation, but we've had issues where people have done stuff like put in a 1 and taken a 5 or stuff like that, and we have certain homeless or slightly disturbed individuals who have been known to do this. So they asked me to just stand there, smile and subtly let people know with my presence that someone was watching to discourage anyone from trying anything, since apparently I have the sort of gaze that people find slightly intimidating. There was also the teacher I had in high school (appropriately enough, the one who got me started on the Criminal Justice path) who once described me as having eyes that make people feel like I can see right through them.

It also made me think of something I read where people will be more honest if there's even a picture of an eye near a place where they might be tempted to steal from the till, since it makes them feel like they're being watched.
