Day 26 - A song that you can play on an instrument

When a felon's not engaged in his employment - Gilbert and Sullivan

It's hard to find a lot of songs that I can play on my flute, but I learned this one for fun a few years ago. The part I can play starts around 3:00.

Day 25 - A song that makes you laugh

Jonathan Coulton - Re: Your Brains

The first time I heard this I was at work and listening to the campus radio on the computer, and I nearly died laughing. It was especially funny since I was in an office at the time.

Day 24 - A song that you want to play at your funeral

Gone Away - SafetySuit

Wow, that's a loaded one, even more so than the last one. This is actually a song I think about with a character of mine who dies at the end of the story (I ain't saying who), and I've always heard this song as someone who is about to die telling everyone else that they haven't seen the last of them and not to worry. I believe in reincarnation, of course, so that's where that interpretation comes from.

Day 23 - A song that you want to play at your wedding

Frou Frou - It's Good To Be In Love (Live)

This one took a while to pick because my wedding is next to the last thing on my mind at this point in my life. I also realized that I don't have too much as far as unambiguously happy music goes, but this works.

Day 22 - A song that you listen to when you’re sad

Get Me Through December - Alison Krauss

Alison Krauss has an amazing voice, and she really hits this one out of the park. It's sad, but it's also hopeful and has a light at the end of the tunnel. Oh, and the fiddle is beautiful, and she's actually playing it. The album she did with Robert Plant (and yes, I do mean the guy from Led Zeppelin) is really really good, even though you'd never guess to put those two together.

Day 21 - A song that you listen to when you’re happy

I wouldn't exactly call this a happy song from David Gray, but it's hopeful and optimistic.

Day 20 - A song that you listen to when you’re angry

Let It Die - Foo Fighters

I don't actually have too many angry songs, but I like this one because of the way it builds. So this makes the second Foo Fighter song in a row, and while I don't really like the sort of screaming he does at the end in this case it's effective because it contrasts with the rest of it. I remember first hearing of this song on NPR when they were interviewing Dave Grohl, and they played the beginning of the song followed by the end. It's quite the contrast.

Day 19 - A song from your favorite album

Statues - Foo Fighters

While I'm waiting for the movers I'll do this. This was a hard choice again, but I love the Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace album and this is one of my favorite songs off it.

Day 18 - A song that currently intrigues you

This is another one from the KuroFay soundtrack I did, and I'd forgotten about it for a while. It's totally Kurogane's song, and I remember as I was making that mix I was like "YES! PERFECT!" when I started listening to it. It has some interesting stuff going on in it, but it's also pretty simple and I like it.

Day 17 - A song that you hear often on the radio

Norah Jones & The Peter Malick Group - Strange Transmissions

I'm totally gonna cheat since I don't really listen to commercial radio these days and put up one I first found on Pandora, which is the closest thing to commercial radio I listen to these days.

Day 16 - A song that you used to love but now hate

Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved

I hate this one mostly through association, since I associated it with someone who, to put it mildly, turned out to be a complete and utter bitch. And she evidently hasn't changed a bit since I last saw her, so it still stands.

Day 15 - A song that describes you

Oh boy, tough one. I had a few in mind, but today as I was heading back home on the T this popped up on my MP3 player since I'd uploaded the KuroFay mix I made a while ago. It came down to this or "I Don't Know What It Is" but that's already in as favorite song at the moment. It didn't feel right to do a song for me that's all triumphant and such because I haven't really earned it as this point, Hell, I'm only 20 years old and still clueless a lot, and this song has a lot of honesty to it that I try to express in my life. I think I'm pretty savvy and I will offer my opinion on things, but to claim I have all the answers? Psh, no. If I do slap me.

Also? Anyone who does claim to have it all figured out? Is a liar. With the exception of Buddha and those sorts, but they aren't really around anymore.

Day 14 - A song that no one would expect you to love

blink-182 - I Miss You

Maybe people would expect me to like this one, since I did use it in a fanmix once (the one I did about Anthy, since I thought it was very appropriate), and I believe the first time I heard it was in a fanmix someone else made. And I know, everyone makes fun of these guys nowadays, but this song has some nice melodies going on it. Yeah it's melodramatic, but it gets the point across. And I just like the chorus "Don't waste your time on me you're already the voice inside my head" for some reason.

Day 13 - A song that is a guilty pleasure

I admit it, I like Justin Timberlake, and I admit that I liked N'Sync back in the day (also, I totally called Lance being gay). I think I went through a period of denouncing him for a while, and then a little while ago I realized that he's actually a creative, talented guy. I know his appearance on Saturday Night Live won a lot people over (especially "Dick in a Box") because it showed that he's a sweet, funny guy with a sense of humor about himself, and he has a kind of endearing dorky quality that seems a lot more genuine than the pretty boy he was trying to be.

I liked this song since it came out, because it's kind of fun, and this is a pretty cool video. I almost did this as part of my drag act last year, but that didn't work out. My drag persona is kind of based on him, at least wardrobe wise. I also really like the bit at the end of this song where it gets all sad, and the video plays it well. I also tend to get distracted by people's eyes, so I like how his eyes look gray in that part.

Day 12 - A song from a band you hate

This one was kind of tough, if only because I tend not to really hate that much music as long as the band is competent. Even if I hate the lyrics I'll generally respect the musician.

This one, however, pisses me off on a few different levels.

Jason Derulo - Whatcha Say

My biggest beef? That they sampled the amazing Imogen Heap's amazing song "Hide & Seek" and made her sound like a chipmunk. Unforgivable. Also egregious use of auto-tune, which I hate in general, and the subject... God, don't get me started. "Oh yeah I'm a cheating scumbag, but take me back baby, because I'm just a man with no control over myself sexually and when I strike it rich I'll take care of you!" No. Denied. Bazooka to the face worthy. The first time I heard this song I had a D: face by the end. I have slightly less hatred for the acoustic version, but they still use the chipmunk voice for Immy.

Day 11 - A song from your favorite band

Tough choice, but the Goo Goo Dolls have a special place in my heart, and so does this song. Partly because I associate it with the time in my life when I was trying to break free from a lot of things and come to terms with myself, and this really nails the sort of energy necessary to do that, especially the end bit.

Day 10 - A song that makes you fall asleep

David Gray - Transformation

I actually did nod off to this song as I was on the bus on Friday, and it's pretty good for drifting off to sleep since it's about putting down your barriers, and it's just a very beautiful song. This also makes David's second appearance on this list, and this is one song that's a bit different than his usual style.

Day 09 - A song that you can dance to

Everywhere - Fleetwood Mac

I recently rediscovered the album this song is on when I was looking through my music files, and I remembered why I love Fleetwood Mac. Don't get me wrong, this song is cheesy, but it knows exactly what it is, a cheesy late 80s song. But it's fun, and my mom remarked that the opening sounds like it could be in a magical girl anime series (I've actually imagined it over the first closing credits of Utena and think it would work perfectly). And it's infectious, fun, and very easy to dance around to.

Day 08 - A song that you know all the words to

Everybody Knows - Rufus Wainwright (original by Leonard Cohen)

I know this one mostly out of necessity since I performed in drag to it, and I needed to know the words so I could lip sync to it and not make an ass out of myself (for the record going on stage in drag is not making an ass of myself, in fact it's very fun, but messing up while doing it is).

Assuming there's another show this year I might do another Rufus song or two, but those plans are currently top secret.

Day 07 - A song that reminds you of a certain event

Link since YouTube hates me

But Honestly - Foo Fighters

This song reminds me of right around the time I graduated from high school, since while I liked and still like certain people I went to high school with overall it wasn't a pleasant experience for me, and in fact I took courses at a community college for my senior year to get out. In June of that year I did attend the high school graduation, and I remember on the way back from the rehearsal I cued this up on my stereo. It just seemed appropriate.
