No wonder the dollar coin never caught on

Doing one small good deed will pay off in a million different ways today -- so keep an eye out for an old person who needs help crossing the street, someone at a cash register who's a dollar short, or a harried friend who needs help running a few errands. Reaching out to others is a great way to promote yourself and make yourself feel good at the same time. Plus, it will make helping others a habit -- and that's a good habit to have.
That ended up sort of coming true. My dad had me bring in his coin jar to the CoinStar machine in lieu of us going down together (he isn't feeling well) and I got to keep half of the money he got out of it. Given it was $130 in the end that helped out a lot, and I'll try to deposit at least part of it in my account. Carrying that jar I can also tell why the Susan B. Anthony never caught on. 0.o
We also ran into my aunt Kate during lunch, where I got to ask her about college admissions and whether the GCC thing in lieu of a senior year (but with a normal admissions process) would look good. She essentially said yes, and that she doesn't know of any place that would look down on it. When she's finished the admissions she has to do for UMass (she works there) we'll get together over lunch to talk about it. That was nice timing, and next week I'll probably get the application for the GCC thing.
