Idiots.

So in my Japanese class there's a group of boys who sit in the back and constantly chat with each other, make stupid jokes and generally act immature enough to the point that I forget I'm not in high school anymore. They've prompted our mild mannered teacher to tell them to "urusai" in Japanese, which is basically the equivalent of "shut the fuck up", multiple times. I've nicknamed them The Rabble.

The other day we were talking about Valentine's Day, when the women give men chocolate, and White Day, which is a month later and the guys return the chocolate. The Rabble, naturally, started making jokes, including one who wondered what would happen if two guys gave each other chocolate, followed by a "that's messed up!"

I proceeded to direct a death glare in that kid's direction, and during the break he asked why. I replied that he'd made a gay joke, and a few seconds later it clicked. But then he said "But why do you care, I was talking about gay guys!"

...

I'm just gonna assume that everyone reading this knows why that's stupid and move on.

I proceeded to give him a look that I hope conveyed that I didn't think he was worth destroying and went back to what I was doing.

Maybe you should bring your sword into class . . .

I have brought the sword-brella, which I've nicknamed the kasana (kasa = umbrella) which gets the same message across.

Irish uni/college students whould largely think themselves far too sophisticated to ever say stuff like this in public. Some of them though, propabaly whould still have the underlying unacceptable attitudes. I wonder is the fact that homophobia is publically considered backward and stupid in European colleges, while some people in their midst still think these things, slow progress or just a bunch of temporary window dressing

I really hope progress in genuinely being made.

99 per cent chance they're fresh out of high school and still dorks.
