*sigh* Au Revoir, my good reptilian
Nov. 19th, 2007 12:07 amI just discovered that Speedy, my house gecko, apparently passed away sometime recently. If you're wondering why I just now discovered this it's because he's a hiding-type gecko, so I literally didn't see him until just now since he blended in with the environment so well. The last time I saw him was Friday, so it must have been sometime since then.
I've had him since I was in elementary school, and he was incredibly long-lived for one of his species. Still, it's sad to see him go, since despite the fact that I was never actually able to pick him up due to his skittish behavior, he was a quiet little companion I always knew was there, and just knowing that got me through some rough times when I was in elementary and middle school.
Right now it's too late to do anything, but tomorrow (or more accurately, later today since it's past midnight) I'll take him to the little pet cemetery we have under our maple tree out front and empty out his terrarium. The crickets that are still in there can go out into the wild. I'll also see if I can move Ryu (the leopard gecko in a separate tank) to the dresser where he was.
Good night, sweet prince. And flights of insects sing thee to thy rest!
(Who else do you know who'd paraphrase Shakespeare in a lament to a pet? Yeah. I'm that weird.)
