One thing about the MSPCA, kids and kittens is that whenever there are kids and kittens there's a certain level of chaos. Mainly, that many of said kittens are escape artists and the kids aren't careful enough to prevent it. And yesterday there was a little orange one that escaped no less than 3 times while I was there, once ending up under the "cat condos" and eventually being lured out by a rolled up newspaper that was a makeshift toy, and a few minutes later slipping out of someone's hold and again going for that area before I put my arm down as interference so another volunteer could grab him.
The third time was particularly funny. A group of kids came in and wanted to hold him, so I cautiously said yes and warned them that he might make break for it. While this was happening I was also holding a little black kitten. Predictably the orange kitten got out of the kid's hold and made a break for under the cat condos again. I happened to be directly in his path, and pretty much on reflex I transferred the black kitten to one hand and grabbed him with the other. I was particularly proud of that, and the kids actually cheered me.
And the best part? The orange kitten got adopted! His new owners are in for an adventure...
