Show!

This week's radio show. I also found out that a kid I went to high school who is now in Seattle was listening, so that was cool since I haven't seen him in a long time. I'm also glad I thought to put up that I was doing the show on Facebook.

I don't know why, but the audio on the recording dropped out a couple times during songs, and I didn't notice during the actual show. So I pulled an Orwell and replaced the audio. I did not, however, edit out the part where I talked into the wrong mic for about 10 seconds because I thought it was funny and I try to maintain a certain level of self deprecation.

Edit: Put up a second version of the show since I found one bit where the music went out and I hadn't noticed. My voice also went out at one point, so I think it might have been the recording computer that did it, but I just left it.

Edit 2: D'oh, I accidentally cut out one of the transitions. Oh well, too late now. In case anyone's wondering, after Cycle it's Illustrated Man by Johnny Winter and then Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John.

The Script

One of my favorite new bands from the last few years are these guys, The Script, and this is among my favorites off of their new album. I read a review that said that their lyrics tend to be about deeper stuff than a lot of pop music out there, and one thing I've noticed is that they really get heartbreak and desperation, both of which are really evident in this one.

Another thing I find interesting is that several of their songs (especially "For the First Time") have to do with economically hard times, and considering they're from Ireland I wonder if it's a cultural thing (I actually found an interview where they said that they specifically wrote one song about the recession). I also remember thinking that they sound a bit like The Police, and probably have some of the same influences.

They're also a band I like because you can hear how they improved between their first and second albums, and I love to hear a group's sound evolve.
