Decent movie. I thought it was short gorgeously, the girl who played Lyra was brilliant, and if they keep it up it could be a great fantasy movie series.
They could have done worse, though in my opinion they actually played up some of the religious content from the books, and the most wince-inducing moment was probably keeping Roger alive, so I'm not sure how they'll handle that later when he turns out to be important. I'm also wondering where they put the severed-Daemon warehouse, since as it stands it looks like the got blown up with the facility, unless they cut the scene for some reason. Maybe it'll be on the DVD.
And it still bugs me that Lyra has brown eyes, but both of her parents have blue eyes! What with recessive genes she would have them too, since her parents who only be able to pass on the blue eyed gene since it takes two recessive alleles to have blue eyes in the first place! Oh well, the biologist in me dost protest too much. :/
As for the second part of the subject line... remember how I mentioned a while ago that I have afetish like of women in suits? I present Bazette Fraga McRemitz from Fate/Hollow Ataraxia. Holy crap I almost got a nosebleed. Though I might have found someone to cosplay if I go to Anime Boston this year. I'd essentially just have to part my hair on the opposite side and find a reddish suit. That could work. :D
