Something that made me (almost) scream

So besides the peanut truck they also had a guy in a peanut suit in Government Center.



The thing was that I didn't realize he wasn't a statue until he moved. I totally didn't nearly run away screaming at the sight.

Anyway, he doesn't look that bad when still, but in motion? Pure uncanny valley. Brr.

It was the combination not knowing it was alive and the complete lack of motion in the face. It reminded me of this terrible mascot UMass had several years ago called "Mr. Slice" this giant slice of pizza. They insisted "the kids love him!" but I was personally terrified.

(Amusingly enough, I found someone else talking about Mr. Slice on the "Accidental Nightmare Fuel" entry of TvTropes, which I will not link to so as to spare people getting sucked into that website, as I have)

Mr. Slice sounds like a serial killer. Like, this guy with pepperoni-like boils and hideously melted mozzarella-like flesh dripping from fried-dough bones with a blood-and-flesh-encrused circular saw that rings your doorbell in the middle of the night and hang on I didn't order any pizza and OHGAWDAAAAAARRRRRAAAAAGGHHH!

Y'know, I'd never actually thought of the serial killer angle. It does add another layer of "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!" to the whole thing.

Oh, and their regular mascot was a guy called "Sam the Minuteman" who can be pretty terrifying (http://www.obsessedwithsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Sam-The-Minuteman-ESPN-Bristol-Brian-Kenney.jpg) on his own. I think Mr. Slice and Sam probably traumatized many children back when they were both used, though they eventually did scrap "Mr. Slice."
