Jun. 21st, 2010 04:52 pmCertain things I wonder about in advertising are why certain words are verboten, so instead we get cutesy replacements. To wit:
I don’t get it, and I can’t help but think it’s somewhat infantile, especially since they usually tend to show up in commercials directed at women. I just know it annoys me every time I see it since I prefer to be spoken to like a mature adult, none of this cutesy language nonsense.
- Vegetables – “Veggies” and not just in commercials directed at kids, saying the full word just doesn't seem to happen unless you're being science-y and talking about the health benefits of whosie-whatsit
- Stomach, Gut – “Tummy” which seems primarily directed at women wanting to lose weight in that area or in products that claim to shrink/appear to shrink it
