I've been having nightmares about getting my wisdom teeth out next Monday, but today I looked up some information on what exactly it is they do, and it actually calmed me down. I do think it was the right decision to ask that they put me under when they do it, considering that I once (accidentally) nearly punched my dentist when he was working on my teeth and he hit a nerve. He's never let me live that down, and I'm pretty sure this time if they held up the teeth they'd pulled out I'd either have a panic attack or faint, and I think it's in everyone's best interests that we avoid that. I've only been under general anesthesia once (when they had to check me for colon polyps) and it's a weird feeling to say the least, but I vastly prefer it to be conscious.
Did I also mention all four are coming out? At the same time? That was the other reason we decided to knock me out. For a while the dentist had been saying that they might not have to take them out, but this year they took another look and said we should, since they're definitely coming in crooked. Doesn't help that I have a small jaw, which was why I needed braces all those years ago. On the upside I was only told that I'd have to keep wearing my retainers until my wisdom teeth were in fully/came out, but that's up to the orthodontist.
I talked to a few people I know who had them out and it's apparently not too bad once it's over, mostly just annoying, and it probably works in my favor that it'll be during break when I don't have to do anything especially strenuous. I seem to heal pretty quickly too, so hopefully that will help. I understand that they also give you a bunch of painkillers after the fact, so I'll have to see if I need them or if taking them messes me up too much.
