Budgeting 101
Mar. 10th, 2011 06:57 pmSince it turns out that I owe the feds $180 on April 18th (for comparison, $182 is my weekly paycheck after taxes, and because I had to change my tax status since I made more than we thought I would last year it's actually going to be less soon) I've been going over the budget and trying to figure out what I could cut. And I made a decision, which actually wasn't that hard since there isn't all that much that could be cut. I mean, I almost never go out to eat or to bars, make most of my own food from scratch, bring lunch to work with me and and just don't buy all that much stuff in general. Hell, I've even cut back on the comics and manga and probably won't do Anime Boston this year.
So, bye-bye Vonage phone. I'll still have it for the better part of this month since I actually just paid it this week, but I just can't have that much taken out for how little I use it and justify it. I did find a compromise, though, mainly switching my cell phone to a plan that charges $2 for every day it's used, and after that charge the use it unlimited for that day, and it only charges for the days it's actually used*. Considering that I average 3 days between uses on my phone and tend to go back and forth on the same day it's the best choice, and I can keep refilling with the "pay as you go" system and not have to buy a $60 plan that is too much for how little I use my phone. I looked at my phone and how much I used it and it comes out to less than my current cell phone costs and Vonage together. I only have 2 hours and 45 minutes worth of call time on this phone total since I got it, which is apparently next to unheard of if the number of people I know who are always glued to theirs is any indication.
*FYI to Mom, if I call you it'll only charge me, same as with the Vonage phone, so it won't increase your bill and I won't have to keep conversations between us short.
