Well, it seems I'm turning Japanese. *cue music*
Yesterday there was a mysterious message on the Best Buy tracker for Hermes saying that I needed to "confirm some information" before they could proceed. I tried calling them, but got disconnected twice due to phone troubles. Well, after work was canceled today due to the weather I decided to go in myself with mom, and we found out that the "information" was that they're cheap bastards who aren't willing to fix Hermes but would give me a new one under the service plan.
The first words out of my mouth were not "Sweet Happy Sunshine".
Anyway, so Hermes is gone, though the guy at Best Buy will try to get the hard drive back, though he didn't make any promises. The new machine is a Toshiba Satellite that's just about the same as Hermes minus something called a "Fire Port", and considering when the guy asked about it I had no idea what it was I guess I never used it. It actually came with Vista, which I've spent the last two hours taking the annoying parts out of and reinstalling CoLinux, which they actually made less frustrating this time around. Now I just need to install some codecs and my movie program and I'm back in business.
The new computer has also been dubbed Leto, after the Dune character. Although I don't think this thing will be turning into a sandworm anytime in the near future. ;)
And assuming I get out of the follow of up CAT scan at Cooley Dickinson in time we'll pick up the car tomorrow, though I have my doubts about getting out in time since I was there for three hours last time. Anyway, things should be back to normal soon. It tends to work that way for me, periods of unrest that come all at once. But, it's the peace afterwards that makes it worth it.
But still... replacing a Chevy with a Toyota and a HP with a Toshiba... seems to be a pattern.
