I tend to be suckers for strong-willed people with mysterious sides, as I think the below characters will show. Presented in no particular order, and yes, me having an icon of them is pretty indicative of their presence on this list ;)

Monou Fuuma - X/1999
I'm not quite sure what it is about him, but he's just intriguing and can go between creepy (read: doing stuff like pinning Kamui to a wall with shards of glass) to acting like a dork who practiced his speech in front of the mirror. It's his sheer mystery that intrigues me.

Himura Kenshin - Rurouni Kenshin
To put it simply, he's one of my heroes. He's very deeply human and has paid for it, but he manages to maintain a cheery disposition (most of the time) and do what he feels he can to correct what he's done. I think everyone can learn something from him. He's also a bit more of a smartass in the manga, which I find endearing.

Daidoji Tomoyo - Card Captor Sakura/Tsubasa
She's one of the characters that I just want to be happy, even though she gives up the person she loves (Sakura) in the interest of making sure that she and Syaoran can be happy. I found this extremely selfless on her part, which is why it makes me sad to see her portrayed as a jealous bitch who'd "steal" Sakura. Um... no?

Auron - Final Fantasy X
Yup, I've got a thing for samurai-esque characters, in case you couldn't tell. Not only does he have a very interesting backstory, but he takes the role of the grizzled veteran who knows (a hell of a lot) more than he lets on. In game he was also my strongest character, so that's part of the reason I love him so much, since I literally taught him everything, essentially turning him into a one-man battalion. :)

Himemiya Anthy - Revolutionary Girl Utena
Other than being gorgeous, she's another interesting character. I personally prefer the movie version to the TV series, partially because there's less spite under everything she does, and in the movie she effectively saves both herself and Utena. In all, I think she's a great deconstruction of the Princess/Damsel in Distress archetype, and I think she's probably the most human character in the show with the most shades of grey in terms what she does and why.

Watanuki Kimihiro - xxxHolic
Watanuki's just a good person, to put it simply. Despite the spazzing (and lots of it at that) he genuinely cares about people and does his best to help them, and over the course of xxxHolic he's really matured into a great character. Now if only CLAMP would get back to the f-ing story so we could find out what the hell he really is...

Aoyagi Ritsuki - Loveless
In spite of his horrific homelife and all the stuff he's been through Ritsuka's a very strong character, and I admire than in a person. He's a bit more tsun in the anime version, but in the manga he's often very insightful for a 12 year old and probably one of the most mature members of the cast in spite of everything. He's actually a lot like me when I was that age, so that might be part of why I like him.

Iroh - Avatar the Last Airbender
To put it simply, the man is walking wisdom. Plus he has an eccentric side and genuinely has Zuko (aka The Angry Jerk's) best interests at heart. I think among a mostly teenaged and preteen case he's an essential character to have.

Fujioka Haruhi - Ouran High School Host Club
Most of the fandom is (IMO) batshit insane, but I still love Haruhi for just being herself. For one, she's one of the first accurate representations of a bigender person I've seen, and second, she's the straight man/woman to the rest of the crazy people and very often is the voice of reason. I just wish more people liked her.

Nekoi Yuzuriha - X/1999
I just love. This. Girl. She's energetic, but not over-the-top, and can pull Mr. Angsty Pants (aka Kamui) out of just about anything. If she was real I'd probably glomp her and not let go. :D

B-b-but Fuuma's scary-freaky-scary like a serial killer! He talks to a little girl and gives her a froggy balloon (I think) and you just know she's gonna die with her guts in her eyes seconds later because of something he or his minions did! He's evil I tell you! Eeeeviiiilllll! Although compared to Kamui he's awesome since Kamui's more emo than Hamlet.

Yuzuriha I agree with. Yay Pocky! Yay little swordy-shield dog!

At least Fuuma's not Seishiro. Now that would be a bad situation (I'm not really a fan of Seishiro myself, sociopathic guy that he is). The Tsubasa version of Fuuma's also just a dork. Plus God knows when we'll actually find out what's going on in X with the whole hiatus, but I continue to maintain that he's not actually evil.

Though I haven't read Ouran HS Host Club, from what I understand of the basic premise ... why isn't there femslash in the fandom? She's basically pretending to be a guy and dating girls, right? Most of the fandom seems concentrated on the potential yaoi and which of the guys Haruhi will end up with.

Plus she's cute. I would fall for that girl on looks, at least.

Otherwise, word Mc. Wordsauce on your thoughts about Kenshin and Auron. :)

*nods* I am dismayed by the lack of femslash, considering that one character practically imagines Haruhi hooking up with another female in the show. I attribute it to the oversaturation of fangirls in that show, though.
