Well, after a year of wonky weather it seems to be trying to catch up to itself and make it actually look like December out there, and as a result we have around a foot out there, having been piling up since yesterday around noon.

In other news my goddamn period finally showed up. Ever since I got back from Boston I've felt like it was just around the corner, and this was a concern when we had no showers and no way for me to clean myself off. Well, the fucker is finally here, and I'll probably still have it at Christmas. Damn. For the first day or so it's usually pretty heavy, which somewhat incapacitates me with pain, though it gets easier from there. I'm still in that first 24 hours, and Dad's still trying to clear the driveway to the point that we can get out, especially since I haven't even started holiday shopping.

Speaking of holiday shopping, I talked with my aunt on the phone the other day and got some ideas for what to get my cousin Derek, who I drew for Secret Santa this year. Apparently gift certificates to a local restaurant and Gamestop would make him very happy. She also asked me what I wanted, and then basically had to interrogate me to get me to even start to figure it out, since asking me that question basically gets you a blank stare and a lot of "Uh"ing. Besides the sarcastic answers of "a job" "money" and "financial aid" I really don't know what I want. I recall my dad saying that this tends to happen as you get older, since by then if you want something you're able to get it yourself (well, maybe not that last part at the moment, but same idea). I can also see why gift cards are so popular, if a somewhat lazy option. But hey, if that's what my cousin wants it's what he'll get!

I also just checked the radar for this area, and it turns out that the snow is basically stationary over us. It's pretty, but knowing New England it'll get old really really fast.

I suppose our bodies don't actually allow us to bleed until it's safe to do so-meaning when all services are disrupted, that cycle, no matter how otherwise regular, may be disrupted, too. Just a thought. Probably has some evolutionary protective value-after all if you're freezing your ass off you don't want the wolves at the door-and neither do you want to be in a fertile cycle when your body has been burning extra calories just to stay warm.

The only thing I've found helpful besides just resting is taking ibuprofen regularly starting 3 days out-or whenever I start having other symptoms that suggest I'm due (acne, cravings, bloating, etc).

Your dad has a gpod point about holiday stuff. There's nothing I want that I can't actually get for myself that involves material things. However, even giving a person a gift card, you can personalize what you write, and a card with a personal story or something you value about the person or remember or wish for them can be precious, too. And I like using the "wish list" feature, and making donations to charities in people's honor.

Yeah. You can always include a hand-drawn card or something like that to make it more personal. The card even has the chance of being around longer than whatever gadget makes up the "real" present.
