Lately I've been thinking of trying to switch my leopard gecko Ryu from crickets to mealworms, since I'm planning to take her to Boston with me. I didn't think having a container of live crickets would go over well with the land lord since they make lots of noise and can escape, so I asked the guy at the place where we get crickets now about mealworms, and he explained that they're really easy to keep (they literally can stay in the refrigerator in a container).

I just didn't know if she would even eat them, so last night when I offered them to her I was thrilled when she gobbled them up eagerly. Mealworms are also more nutritious to her in the long run and probably taste better, so I'm glad that she liked them so much. They also smell a lot less than crickets do and aren't nearly so hard to catch when they escape. I do have to feed her two worms for every cricket, but since I have tongs that should be easier.

Now I just have to warn Nadia about the worms in the refrigerator. They can't escape their container, but it would just be courteous to warn her about that before she discovers it by accident.

Aww! Dear gods I miss having pets. We used to have cats, but when we had to put the last one down because she was having urinary problems, my parents said no to a creature/companion (or creature companion!) that would prevent them from traveling (or make them have to ask someone to come over, oh horrors! (the parents are very self-reliant, self-sufficient people)). So as much as I love cats, I can't have any for a pet. We've had birds too, but those have been a downright nuisance. A reptile would be cool, though!

Leopard geckos are pretty low maintenance, and I've heard when transporting them you can just put them in a box and they'd be fine.

I do like this icon, I think they guy who made it said it was a beastmaster like thing. :)
