Utena, aka WTF the series

Last night after all the RCN related rage Jen, Nadia and I decided to watch Utena (the TV series) since Nadia owns the whole series. And boy, did I forget just how fucked up that show is. There are so many scenes that are hilariously weird and simultaneously very very disturbing (car cactus shirts flying open WHA?!), especially in the second half, and we were joking that we should have a WTF counter as we're watching.
It's also amazing just how much they foreshadow that you don't get until later or until you watch a second time. For those who haven't seen it I won't spoil it, but let's just say that a major plot point in the second half is foreshadowed in the first ending sequence, causing a reaction of "Oh my God they were hinting at this since episode 1!" This set of DVDs also has interviews with the director, and boy is he a piece of work, giving vague or just plain nonsensical answers.
Jen, Nadia and I have decided that we'll show the movie to Sara if only to watch her brain melt at the end. We've been being mum about just what happens so as not to ruin the sheer WTF factor.

They seemed encouraged that I actually seem to give a damn about the mission of the organization (home ownership being a major social justice thing, and yes I mentioned that) and they seemed like nice folks.
