Yeah, it's official. The old cell phone is kaput, if only because the keypad no longer works, which is kind of a problem since it means I can't make phone calls or do much of anything, including turning the damn thing off without manually popping out the battery.

After a while wrestling with the AT&T website I found out that I'll only be able to keep my current number and balance if I buy a new phone at one of their stores, wrecking my plans to do it online since I don't want to have to buy a new plan since I'm so incredibly cheap. I'll probably go over to one of their stores tomorrow or sometime soon to do that, probably by the weekend. Until then I just have to survive without a phone, and even though I've plastered it all over my Facebook wall I just know someone who didn't get the message is going to try to call me.

Luckily I get paid tomorrow and the money from Suffolk should (emphasis on should) be showing up Friday, so it's not as big a blow as it could be. It's still irritating.

Why don't you give them your *gasp! how quaint!* landline number?

I did mention the landline in my wall post (and in fact that number is right on my profile page), but I know my friends and that someone won't be thinking and dial the cell phone number instead since they've done it before even when I expressly tell them to use the other one. Now in theory the cellphone can still receive a call, but it's still pretty much useless and I already took it apart.

giggling.. I think you twittered it to death. I bet you can get an awesome deal on EBay or even if you put the word out for a comparitive price you are willing to pay for the same Service Provider. Can't hurt.??

Oof! You and phones don't seem to get along.

At the very least it's mutual hatred, though I managed to keep this one for a while before I seriously damaged it.

I always thought you keep your number and balance if you just plug the simcard in a different phone. That's how it works over here anyway.

That is in fact how it ended up working, so my balance transferred over to the new one. The only problem was that I'd been unthinkingly saving all my contacts to my phone instead of my SIM so I have to start all over with them anyway. D:

I bought a USB kit for my phone, it lets me charge it on a USB port and also download contacts and messages and such. It's very useful.

I can get one of those too for a price, but I can also just pop out the chip and transfer stuff that way. I'm still playing around to figure out what it can and can't do.
