Wow. The fans weren't kidding.
May. 3rd, 2008 09:20 pmSo the other day I found out that they've released all three of the Metal Gear Solid games in a box set in preparation for the 4th one. For thirty bucks. I was on it, how they say, like a hungry teenager on a steak dinner.
So I bust open the first one, thinking that I'll start from the beginning. A bit of a rough start (stupid sexy Revolver Ocelot!) but I'm getting the hang of it. It's mostly normal up the point that the Ninja shows up, and that appears to be the moment it stops trying to take itself seriously and just becomes one WTF after another as the game designer starta to screw with our heads in Evangelion proportions. And I hear the second one does that even more so.
Oh, and the homoeroticism between Snake and Otacon? Not exaggerated by the fans at all. Really. Considering that the first words out of Snake's mouth about Otacon are "Keep your hands off him! I need him!" (granted, that's out of context, but still...) and the first words directly spoken to him are "How long are planning on hiding in [that closet]?" No way that's accidental. No way. Apparently even the voice actors have picked up on it and joked about it. And don't get me started on the noises the Ninja makes during the battle ("Hurt me more, Snake!") yeah...
Weird game, but in an interesting way. Also, the cardboard box trick actually works. I can't believe it either.
