It finally happpened. My maternal grandmother Gloria has passed on. But I'm not sad, or as sad as I thought I would be. She was a diabetic, and lived with it for over 40 years. She was taken into the hospital on Thursday when they found her passed out in her home, and it appears now that she had brain damage as a result of the fall. And now she's gone. They took her off life support at 5:41 pm coastal time. She had basically been waiting to die. She's at peace now. I saw her spirit, and she was beautiful. I feel calm now as well. I'm not sure about tommarrow, but I'll just have to take it when it comes.
And now, a poem I wrote a while ago (don't remember exactly)
Free, at last
Rising like a summer hawk
Fleeing the darkness in which she hid
Wings lifting her high
Above what she has known
Beyond what she knew as delight
Sudden realization
Self actualization
Finally holding the sun
Looking down below
And grasping her every dream
At last knowing what it is to be
Shadows melting all around her
Banished from her glowing form
Pain vanishing
As if it never were
Chains falling away
As she leaves the ground below
Her face upturned
To catch the golden light
Knowing love at last
Feeling warm and safe
Embraced by the cosmos in strong arms
Her weak body left behind
Discarded like an empty shell
Leaving her as one who knows no limits
Nothing now is hidden
Only truth resounds
Not a false word passes the lips of angels
Eyes seeing every color
Each sound resonating clearly
Finally knowing what it is to be free
Rest in Peace, Gloria M. Gray
